have you ever come across one of those articles or photos online and you immediately think, THAT IS SO ME?!
scrolling through thoughtcatalog.com tonight i came across an article that screamed "you HAVE to read me, i am about to tell you all about yourself!" and it absolutely did, 100%, to a T, perfectly.
this article is titled "23 things only people who love spending time along will understand" starting with number one, they just kept getting better and i started laughing to myself because each point was so perfect. laughing to myself, and being thankful that there are other crazy people out there who are as weird as me. then, i got to number 22. it legitimately defined my life right now, in every aspect, perfectly.
22. Traveling to a new place by yourself (even if the new place is only ten miles away) is your idea of a great time. You are always either planning a solo adventure, going on a solo adventure, or coming back from one. Experiencing the world through your own eyes without anybody else’s opinion is not just a desire, it’s an essential need of yours.
leading up to this great swiss adventure, i've lost count of the people who have been so shocked that i'm willing to take on this trip alone. i've always said, well, i'm a pretty independent person" (reference back to the article again: #10 on the list: If anyone that knew you were to describe you, one of the words they’d use emphatically to do so is: independent.)
so, to answer the question "wait, you're going there alone?!" i'd say that, in my mind, there's no better way to feel the true sense of adventure and really discover a new place and yourself, than going it alone. sure it may be stressful at times and i may feel uncomfortable, but that's the best part about learning and growing. being alone seems to have such negative vibes, but it's interesting to think about the fact that many people need to spend time alone to feel their best.
i'm sure i'll meet friends when i get to geneva, and spend many late nights out socializing with them, hiking, and studying. but, i'll probably spend the next day recovering by taking a nice long hike....... by myself. :)
so, cheers to geneva, and arriving there in a few short days!
